Phi Mu’s Miracle Market Brings Magic to Children’s of Alabama

No “Frozen” hearts here! Children’s of Alabama patients were treated to a heartwarming celebration in December when Phi Mu Fraternity’s Miracle Market came to the hospital. Phi Mu national headquarters staff and local Phi Mu Alumnae volunteers turned the second floor of the Benjamin Russell hospital lobby into Arendelle, the kingdom in Frozen II, creating a winter wonderland for patients to experience. Members also hosted fun activities and provided the opportunity to shop for the holidays.

We were especially excited to bring some winter fun to our patients by making snow on the patio! For any kid in Alabama, getting the chance to play in the snow is a rare treat – for our patients facing illness or injury, the opportunity was that much sweeter. We appreciate HOAR Construction for making the snow possible for our patients. Patients were also able to view Frozen 2 in our in-house theater. Children’s is thankful for the opportunity to show first-run Disney movies to patients as part of the Disney Movie Moments program.

Miracle Market is an annual event hosted by the Phi Mu National Alumnae Engagement Department to provide fun activities and opportunities for children and their families to experience holiday cheer. Children’s of Alabama was honored to serve as the 2019 Miracle Market location after a nationwide search.

As a long-time supporter of Children’s, the Phi Mu organization is recognized as a Pillar of the Community, which means Phi Mu has cumulatively donated more than $1 million to Children’s of Alabama. Our local collegiate and alumni chapters are passionate and active supporters of Children’s, both with their time and treasure. Phi Mu went above and beyond to make this day special and magical for our patients and families, including ensuring we had abundant winter-themed crafts, activities, and presents were available to meet the needs of all patients. Alumnae around the country virtually supported the event by purchasing toys and gifts for Children’s patients through an online wish list to ensure every patient had a gift. An estimated 1,500 packages were delivered the day of the event courtesy of Phi Mu.
