Resolute Forest Products Supports Log A Load for Kids

Resolute Forest Products Coosa Pines mill has announced the results of its recent Log A Load for Kids fund raising event to benefit the CHIPS Center at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham.

“This was our 26th year to host a golf tournament in support of the Alabama Forestry Association’s Log A Load for Kids Foundation. Because of the generosity of many in the wood products industry as well as suppliers to the Coosa Pines mill and Talladega chip mill, we expect to provide $26,000 to the state Log a Load for Kids Foundation from the proceeds of this tournament,” stated Pat Hogg, General Manager of the Coosa Pines mill.

The Log a Load for Kids program directly supports Children’s Hospital Intervention and Prevention Services (CHIPS), the child abuse center at the hospital. Through the mill’s fundraising efforts, children from all over the state dealing with child abuse can receive needed medical examinations, counseling and therapy, and social work services free of charge. Each year the CHIPS center treats hundreds of children who have been abused or neglected.

The original concept of Log A Load for Kids was initiated by the Alabama Loggers Council and calls for a donation of what a load of logs is worth to a logger, which is approximately $350. The Coosa Pines mill has raised over $518,000 since the Log A Load for Kids Foundation was established in 1994 by the Alabama Forestry Association.

Debra Schneider, Executive Director of the CHIPS Center at Children’s of Alabama, expressed her sincerest appreciation for all the hard work and love shared with the CHIPS Center staff that attended the June 17 event. “Since the COVID pandemic, the services of the CHIPS Center have been needed more than ever. We are very thankful to Resolute Forest Products for their sustaining support for this program,” stated Mrs. Schneider.
