Miracle Monday – Meet Morgan!

Morgan Price was admitted to Children’s of Alabama in September 2014 when she was only 2 months old. Morgan was born with high bilirubin levels and jaundice, and at only 2 weeks old, x-rays revealed she had an enlarged heart and was later diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart’s ability to pump blood is decreased.

Morgan was first prescribed medication to help alleviate her symptoms, but her heart grew larger and weaker, meaning it was time for her family to start looking into heart transplants.

On November 2, 2014, Morgan received a new heart.

Mother, Arica, and Grandmother, Dorothy, described Dr. [F. Bennett] Pearce as the most “patient person in the whole wide world. He never made it seem like I asked too many questions or dumb questions. He always explained everything in terms we understood.”

Morgan’s recovery was swift and exactly one month after her transplant, she was discharged home. Dorothy is thankful for the caring team members of Children’s of Alabama and she still tries to keep in touch with staff members. She explains how “you can tell they genuinely love the kids and we absolutely love Children’s.”
